Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about booking, insurance, payment and how the rental works.

Booking and process

4 questions
How does booking through Wecaru work?
You send us a non-binding enquiry and we pick the rental company from our partner network that best matches your requirements. We send you a specific offer, and once you confirm it, we arrange the booking for you.
How quickly will I get a reply to my enquiry?
We reply to every enquiry within 48 hours. A real person answers you in your own language, not an automated system.
Do I pay in advance or when I pick the car up?
It depends on the rental company — some require the full amount up front, others take payment on the spot when you collect the car. The offer we send you always states clearly when and how much you pay.
Can I cancel my booking or change the dates?
Yes, most bookings can be changed or cancelled free of charge, usually up to 48 hours before pick-up. The exact terms are stated in the offer before you confirm it — just let us know and we will sort the change out with the rental company.

Insurance

4 questions
What is CDW and what does it cover?
CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) is the basic damage cover that is usually included in the rental price. It does not cover the full damage, though — an excess of several hundred euros always remains, and tyres, glass, the underbody and the roof are excluded.
What is full insurance and why do you recommend it?
Full insurance reduces the excess to zero and usually covers glass, tyres and the underbody as well. We recommend it because if something happens, you do not have to deal with a blocked deposit or extra charges — you pay a known amount up front and that is it.
Do I have to arrange the insurance myself, or do you do it?
We arrange the insurance as part of the booking, so there is nothing left to sort out at the counter. The offer always shows what each option covers and what it costs, and the choice is yours.
Does my travel insurance cover a rental car?
Standard travel insurance covers you, not the rental car — it will usually not pay for damage to the vehicle or for the excess. Some credit cards and add-on policies refund the excess afterwards, but you still have to leave the deposit at the counter.

Payment and credit card

3 questions
Do I need a credit card?
No. Most of our partner rental companies accept an ordinary debit card, and with some of them you can even go without a deposit — just mention it in your enquiry and we will pick a company accordingly.
How much money will be blocked as a deposit?
Depending on the company and the car category, the deposit ranges roughly from 100 to 1,500 euros and is blocked on your card for the duration of the rental. With full insurance it is usually much lower or zero, and we always state the exact amount in the offer.
How much does your service cost?
Our service is free for you — you only pay for the rental itself, at the same price or less than if you booked directly with the rental company. The only paid extras are the optional assistance packages for your stay.

Driver and documents

3 questions
What documents do I need to pick the car up?
The driving licence of the main driver, an ID card or passport, and a payment card in the same name. You can simply show our voucher on your phone; for non-European licences the rental company may also ask for an international driving permit.
How old does the driver have to be?
In Spain, Greece and Italy you can rent a car from the age of 21, provided you have held your licence for more than a year. Most companies charge a young driver surcharge for drivers under 25 — it is already included in the price we quote.
Can I add a second driver?
Yes, we add a second or further driver directly to the booking — each of them needs to bring their own licence and ID. With some companies the first additional driver is free, elsewhere it costs a few euros per day, and we state the price in the offer.

Destinations and cars

3 questions
Which destinations do you cover?
We cover the most locations in Spain, including the Canary and Balearic Islands, followed by Greece and Italy. If your destination is not on the list, put it in your enquiry — we will try to find a rental company there as well.
Can I choose a specific car model?
Rental companies book a car category rather than a specific model, so the offer will say something like “Fiat 500 or similar”. If you need specific features — seven seats, a large boot, a tow bar — tell us and we will choose a category that meets them.
Is it possible to rent a car with an automatic gearbox?
Yes, we can arrange an automatic in all of our destinations, but there are far fewer of them than manuals and they sell out quickly in season. They tend to be slightly more expensive, so mention it in your enquiry as early as possible and we will book one in advance.

During the rental

3 questions
What if my flight is delayed and the car is not handed over?
We always put your flight number in the booking, so the rental company can see the delay and keeps the desk open for you. If a problem comes up anyway, contact us and we will sort it out with the company directly.
What should I do if the car breaks down?
Call the roadside assistance line of the rental company — the number is in your contract and on the voucher; assistance is included in the rental price and will arrange a repair or a replacement car. If the language is a problem, message us and we will help with the communication.
How does the handover and return of the car work?
At the desk you show your documents and the voucher, sign the contract and inspect the car together with a member of staff. Photograph the car from all sides both before you drive off and when you return it, and bring it back with the same amount of fuel — that prevents any argument about damage.
